Treasures archived for discovery: KC Public Transportation

February 8, 2010

Imagine what Kansas City would be like if it had thriving rail and bus systems.

Or, you can just look back in time when it was a reality.

From 1870-1957, Kansas Citians had easy access to streetcar lines and buses.

When the industry ceased being profitable, in great part due to more families buying vehicles, the lines were shut down and the tracks dug up and replaced with roads or even walking trails, as is the case directly behind the UMKC residence halls on Brookside Boulevard.
